Sunil also serves in the same role on the Boards of Merisis Advisors, Arthan Finance and as an Independent Director on the Boards of SBI Mutual Fund Trustee Company, Fedfina, Kauvery Hospitals, Perfios Account Aggregation Services, Samunnati, Tapstart and Revgro.

Until recently, he was the Chairman of Fincare Small Finance Bank which merged with AU Small Finance Bank, and completed two terms as an Independent Director at PNB MetLife Insurance. He is a Senior Advisor to Ambit Finvest, Adani Capital, Varthana Finance, and WEH Ventures, an AIF-registered seed fund focused on funding early-stage technology-enabled companies.

Sunil is a member of the Mutual Fund Advisory Committee constituted by SEBI and has chaired or been a member of various Working Groups set up by SEBI for the development or regulation of the Mutual Fund industry. He is also a member of the Implementation Committee for IIT Delhi Strategy and Vision 2030. He is a member of the SP Jain Global Management School Fintech Advisory Board and a visiting faculty at the Goa Institute of Management.

With three decades of global experience in the banking industry across investment banking, corporate finance, relationship management, risk management, and corporate strategy. Sunil was a key member of the management teams at RBL Bank, Yes Bank, and ING Group at the stage of their rapid growth, transformation, and establishment as mainstream players in the Indian banking industry. He served as Chief Risk Officer for almost 6 years at RBL Bank during its transformation from a small regional bank to a national player.

Previously, he spent 5 years at Yes Bank, where he had a short stint as Chief Risk Officer, followed by the role of Group President responsible for Wholesale Banking including Corporate & Institutional Banking, Emerging Corporate Banking, Transaction Banking, International Banking, and Business Advisory. He headed the GE Commercial Finance business for a short period. Before that he headed the ING Barings business in India and was part of the core team that helped ING acquire a controlling stake in Vysya Bank. After the acquisition, he took on the entrepreneurial task of setting up the Wholesale Banking business within ING Vysya Bank. He was also designated as Regional CEO for all their businesses in West India.

Sunil was an early-stage investor and Board Member at Aztec Technologies, which he helped nurture, grow and take public. Subsequently, he worked on the merger of Aztec and Mindtree. Sunil was on the Board of Trustees for ING Investment Management in India. He has attended a certification seminar by Wharton School for Independent Directors and was a member of the Independent Directors Forum organized by CERG Advisory Group as a think tank to evolve governance principles for Board Directors.

His formative years in banking were spent with Bank of America in India and Hong Kong across relationship management, corporate development, and investment banking. This role included corporate restructuring and divestiture transactions for Bank of America across several countries in Asia. During the period that he headed the investment banking practice in India, Bank of America was consistently rated as among the best corporate finance banks and M&A advisors in the country. He was awarded the CEO’s Golden Eagle Pin for Outstanding Achievement during his tenure.

Sunil holds a B.Tech from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi (1982) in Electrical Engg/Computer Science and is a Gold Medalist from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad (1984).
